Ways to create a Jewish Legacy

Creating your Jewish legacy through planned giving enables you to have a positive, lasting impact on our community. Below are some of the most the most effective ways to achieve your charitable planned giving goals. Donor Advised Funds:

  • An easy-to-use current charitable giving fund
  • Enjoy administrative convenience, cost savings, and tax advantages by conducting your regular
  • charitable grant making through the fund
  • May be opened for as little as $1,800. Minimum fund balance of $5,000 required for the privilege of making grants.  Read more about donor advised funds here >


Endowment Funds:

  • Permanent, secure funds offered by OJCF that support the community in perpetuity
  • May be named after you or a loved one
  • Each year, earnings from the fund are granted to your charity of choice
  • Receive current income tax charitable deduction
  • Avoid estate taxes on contributed assets


Charitable Bequests:

  • Gifts that are made through a provision in your will or trust
  • The gift may be an outright donation to OJCF operations, a donation to OJCF’s Community
  • Endowment Fund or it may create a named endowment fund to benefit your charity of choice
  • Your estate receives a full federal charitable deduction for the bequest in the year of your death
  • During your lifetime, the assets remain in your control


Charitable Gift Annuities:

  • A contract between you and OJCF in which you make an irrevocable gift of cash or securities ($10,000 and above) and you receive immediate, guaranteed lifetime payments
  • The remaining value at your passing benefits OJCF’s Community Endowment Fund
  • Receive a partial charitable income tax deduction on the original gift
  • A portion of the payments you receive is tax-free.
  • Capital gains taxes are spread over your lifetime on gifts made with highly appreciated assets owned for longer than 12 months


Life Insurance:

  • You allow the OJCF to purchase and own a life insurance policy on the life of yourself or other designatee
  • Your small tax deductible contribution toward the premium is tax deductible
  • The death benefit is used to establish a sizeable endowment fund in honor of yourself or a loved one without significantly depleting your existing assets
  • You may also convert old policies, or may gift a paid-up policy outright.


Charitable Remainder Trusts:

  • Trusts established for charitable purposes
  • You retain an income interest for a specified period of time
  • OJCF serves as trustee and/or beneficiary, and receives the remaining trust principal upon the death of the last income beneficiary, or at the trust term expiration
  • Remaining proceeds are used to create a named endowment fund
