Receive a Scholarship
OJCF offers several scholarship programs for higher education and campership. To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must be Jewish residents of Oregon and must demonstrate financial need. The deadline for scholarship applications is March 1.
Campership
The Kailes Campership Scholarship provides scholarships for Jewish camps in the United States. Only partial scholarships will be awarded. The average scholarship size is $250. The Kailes Fund does not provide awards for preschool camp.

Higher Education
OJCF offers three scholarships which provide funding for higher education. It is only necessary to submit one application. Applicants will automatically receive consideration from all of the scholarships for which they qualify.
Rebecca and Sada Tarshis Memorial Scholarship: Established in 2002 by the late Rebecca and Sada Tarshis, this scholarship provides tuition assistance to Jewish students for higher education, including college, university and/or graduate school, on the basis of financial need with scholarships of up to $5,000 per recipient per year. The typical award is $1,000. This scholarship does not provide funding for gap programs or overseas trips/overseas study. To be eligible for this scholarship, the applicant must be a Jewish resident of Oregon and demonstrate financial need.
Albert J. Kailes College Scholarship: Albert J. Kailes established this fund in 1991, with the goal of providing college scholarships for Jewish students in Oregon. The college or university must be located within the state of Oregon. This scholarship does not provide scholarships for graduate school. To be eligible for this scholarship, the applicant must be a Jewish resident of Oregon and demonstrate financial need. Only partial scholarships are awarded. The typical award is $1,000.
Arthur P. Krichevsky Memorial Scholarship: The late Arthur Krichevsky was a long time resident of Portland and established this scholarship in 1996 for the purpose of furthering Jewish education. Applicants will be given priority of consideration based on the categories listed below in the following order:
- Jewish Day Schools in Portland (grades 1 and above)*
- Board of Rabbis Teen Israel Experience program*
- Students pursuing post-high school Jewish education through qualified programs offered by accredited educational institutions in the United States. The Committee gives greater consideration to applicants showing the highest levels of commitment to Jewish study, community service and/or outreach.
*The majority of Krichevsky scholarship dollars will be allocated to the first two categories. The Krichevsky Scholarship does not fund Israel experience trips outside of the Oregon Board of Rabbis Teen Israel Experience program.

The Schnitzer Supporting Foundation
This fund give priority to projects in Oregon and SW Washington addressing needs in the areas of Jewish art, culture, community development, education, health and social welfare. The annual deadline for combined application is August 31st.

OJCF Friendly Rosenthal Fund
OJCF’s Friendly Rosenthal Committee awards grants to projects or programs that provide assistance and support for the elderly and infirm in our community. An integral part of the mission of the organization or program itself for which funds are being requested from the Friendly Rosenthal Fund must be for the direct benefit of the elderly or infirm. The annual deadline for applications is November 30th.

OJCF’s The Oregon/Israel Fund awards grants to programs that promote better relations between Oregon and Israel. The annual deadline for applications is November 30th.

OJCF Community Endowment Fund
OJCF’s Community Endowment Fund provides support primarily for “Create a Jewish Legacy”. Create a Jewish Legacy is an initiative of the Oregon Jewish Community Foundation in which OJCF combines forces with our area Jewish organizations, schools, and synagogues to establish bequests and other estate gifts for our community. These are permanent gifts that will ultimately reside at OJCF for the benefit of the organization. The Community Endowment Fund also provides financial support for PJ Library in Oregon communities outside of the Portland metro region, and for the Oregon Jewish Community Youth Foundation—two critical programs for our community’s future.
